Web Branding Bars
Web branding bars must appear on every page of official IU and IU campus subsites. This directive applies to subsites of the IU gateway and of each IU campus. A Web site is considered a subsite if it is a school, program, department, or unit affiliated with a specific campus or the university as a whole. Personal Web pages are excluded.
All branding bars must extend across the top of the Web page with no added white space or additional colors, and the name of the university or campus should function as a link to the home page of the university or campus. (For example, if you are using the Indiana University Bloomington branding bar, the block IU and the words "Indiana University Bloomington" should link to the IU Bloomington home page at www.iub.edu.) With the exception of the optional search feature described below, no other graphics, text, or features can be added to the branding bar without approval from the Integrated Image Policy Committee.

Graphics and source code for these branding bars can be downloaded at the bottom of this page. Each branding bar includes a search feature. This search function is recommended; however, it is optional. A white version of the Indiana University branding bars can be used, and is included with the downloads.
Optional Search Feature
The Integrated Image Policy Committee recognized a need to provide guidelines for a uniform display of search information when it is placed within the branding bar. Consistency in the location and appearance of search boxes and search options will help IU Web site visitors find desired information quickly and efficiently across sites within the IU Web environment. User research has been conducted and the following recommendations made.

The search feature should:
- Be placed in the right corner of the branding bar.
- Provide a text box large enough for at least 27 characters.
- Include only one search box on each Web page.
- Make the scope of the search clear by providing two search options—one to search the unit, school, or program the user is on, and another to search the relevant campus (or all of IU, if using the Indiana University branding bar).
- Be set so the default search scope is associated with the screen the user is on. If the user is on a department site, the default search scope should be that department. If the user is on a campus site, the default should be that campus.
- Offer search scope options as radio buttons, due to space limitations.
- Limit the length of search option terms to no more than 13 characters. Examples have been provided regarding abbreviations for campuses, schools, offices, and centers. Be as clear as possible in the 13 characters you choose, to assist visitors unfamiliar with your unit’s name.
- Maintain a link to the IU Address Book.
Please refer to the instructions contained in the download for more information about implementing the search functionality.
Footer
This footer is to be positioned at the bottom of a Web site and must appear on every page of an official IU site. The footer can be placed on any background color, and there is a version available in the download for sites with dark backgrounds. The block IU should always appear in either crimson or white. Please refer to the instructions contained in the download for more information. Download the graphics and source code below.

Favicon
In browsers that support favicons, or "favorites icons," the favicon graphic can potentially be displayed in three separate areas: in a browser’s address bar, next to bookmarked items, and before the page’s title in a tabbed document interface. The IU favicon should automatically appear on all pages hosted on Veritas, IU’s central server. If your unit uses a server other than Veritas, download the favicon file (favicon.ico) below and place it in the root level of your server. In addition, the favicon is embedded in the downloadable branding bars and footers below.
In order to maintain a unified brand image for the university, all IU units are encouraged to use this favicon.

Downloads
The Web branding bars and footers are packaged together in a ZIP file. The code for the optional search feature is included, but it can be removed if you would prefer not to include the recommended search option in the branding bar. Use the links below to download these materials for your specific campus.
Note: IUPUI units should choose the banner that corresponds to their signature.
